Never underestimate what can happen when you’re buying vegetables! When my mission trip team went to a supermarket in South Africa, a team member prayed for a man she saw. He happened to be the manager and got an instant physical healing.
At that point, I heard someone clear his throat on the intercom. It sounded like Chris Overstreet, one of our leaders, so I made a beeline for the front. He was there with the mic. He had found out about the manager’s healing, explained how God did it all the time, and asked if he could share about it.
The manager eagerly responded, “You can share, you can share!” and handed him the intercom mic.
“This is an unusual day in the supermarket,” Chris preached. “God is here. If you’re in the store, we have a team of people ready to pray for you.”
It was a full-on crusade right there in the store. People began to get touched by God and healed as they shopped! Before we knew it, there was a long line of people being interviewed over the intercom mic about how God had healed them! We saw more than 40 miracles, and many people were saved.
This was a huge supermarket. Checkout ladies stopped working to listen to the Gospel, and one actually turned and raised her hand to be saved. Throughout the store, shoppers stopped shopping. There was a corporate grace to receive.
Then I called out that Holy Spirit told me an ear needed healing. The manager got on the intercom and excitedly called up a worker in the back who had a deaf right ear. Our team member Blake started filming.
The man was excited, and we covered his good ear to test the improvement. As we said different words, he started repeating them! His eyes got bigger and bigger, and he burst out laughing. Then we all felt a pop, and his ear opened up completely.
We continued to pray for people and recorded testimonies on video. People right there were getting saved on video. Others were set free from oppression and embraced our team members. It was a really powerful time.
Our team was already an hour and a half late to our service. This was just us shopping on a normal day! When someone stepped out and took a risk, the door opened for the whole store to hear the Gospel. It’s amazing how God can take any act of obedience, no matter how small, and turn it into something bigger than we ever imagined.
