After three glorious years of Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry and serving for two more years at Bethel Church, Jesus sent me to San Francisco to become a competitive salsa dancer. It was a hidden desire of my heart among countless others.
For eight months I commuted eight hours round-trip from Redding to San Francisco every weekend. Then Jesus sent me to live in the Castro district of San Francisco with a community that encouraged and trained me. Amazing trainers took me on even though they called me a “train without breaks.” I had never been trained in dance or salsa, so I’d fall and take people down with me. But they saw my potential and believed in me. The world champion of salsa who lives in San Francisco, asked me to compete on a Professional/Amateur team with him. Since I was the amateur, I was the one who would be judged. He told me he was going to make me a champion, and that he did!
In nine months we won 50 medals in five competitions in salsa, bachata, and cha-cha-cha. That kind of success was supernatural, and it’s normally unheard of to compete in that many entries! Being the current Pro/Amateur Salsa World Champion and winning 21 first-place medals at the U.S. Salsa Open are my greatest victories. I never could have dreamed of more success. A judge once said, “I’m not a religious man, but when you dance, the heavens open and God shines on you.”
It has also been so fun to see God heal people. I’ve prayed for many of my teammates’ old and new injuries and they are usually healed instantly. I once noticed the best dancer in the world teaching in an ankle brace. The world championships were weeks away, and she couldn’t wear heels. After I prayed, Jesus healed her, and she went on to win all three professional divisions. Another dear friend had a torn hamstring that demobilized her from certain tricks and splits. I prayed, gave her a massage, and she’s now completely healed and able to do the splits again.
I’m continuing to train and compete, I’m using my supernatural success as a platform to be a motivational speaker in and outside the church. God has absolutely wowed me beyond my wildest imagination.
