I am the CEO of an organization. While home in late January 2014 for personal reasons, I was confronted by an issue that was quickly wreaking havoc in our organization. People were struggling with false beliefs, accusatory comments, and the threat that someone could lose their job. They were also questioning staff decisions.
I quickly took action and called an emergency meeting of the governing bodies. I spent some time in prayer asking God how to apply Kingdom principles in this situation. How would He want me to approach the situation? He told me to ask questions, seek first to understand, use things I’d learned at Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry, and ask Holy Spirit what was happening.
After a long meeting with two of my key leaders prior to the organizational meeting, I could discern that there were some fear-based motives behind the comments and underlying tension. That evening at the final meeting, God prompted me to ask, “What would you suggest we do? Should we reverse the decision” – which wasn’t possible due to the threat of community backlash – “or move forward and evaluate what we can do better in the future?”
God gave me the courage to ask one final question of the person most distressed by the situation. “What do you need? What can I do to support you?” Then it unfolded before me. This person was experiencing pressure from peers, plus comments and criticism from outsiders in regard to the situation, and so on.
God gave me the ability to diffuse the situation and provide assurance that we were operating out of complete integrity, that no one did anything wrong, and that we were in alignment with our company mandate. And finally, I was able to speak with individuals outside of the organization who had come against us. God is so good! After 21 hours of conflict, fear, and much anxiety, the entire situation was reversed.
