On a return flight from Washington D.C. I was unexpectedly bumped to business class. From my seat, I peeked into first class and caught a glimpse of a prominent political figure. I would love to pray for her, I thought, but instead felt God telling me to focus on the person next to me.
I looked to my left and began a conversation with the man beside me. He was very open to spiritual conversation and we had a great time chatting about God. At the end of the flight, as we said our goodbyes, I had to smile when he told me he was the advisor to the political figure I had seen in first class!
“Would you like to meet her?” he asked. I jumped at the opportunity. Although I don’t necessarily agree with all of her political views, she was a leader who had not been honored well by Christians in the past so I wanted to apologize to her on behalf of the Christian community. I encouraged her as a courageous, powerful woman and thanked her for making a way for other women. When I shook her hand a tear rolled down her cheek as she admitted, “No one has ever sincerely thanked me before. This has brought so much healing to my heart.”
After our conversation her advisor asked me if I would be his “spiritual guide.” While no one had ever asked me this before, I knew God was giving me this opportunity to reveal His extravagant love and generous power to my new friend. Since then I have been able to share God’s advice and wisdom with him on a regular basis.
