In my job as an emergency medical technician (EMT), I get a lot of opportunities to pray for people and see amazing healings, but this particular shift will stand out in my mind forever.
As usual, my EMT team responded to an emergency call and headed to the location. When we arrived we found the patient looking dangerously ill. We began to work as fast as we could to get the patient into the ambulance. As I was taking the patient’s blood pressure, their eyes rolled back in their head, their breathing stopped and we couldn’t find a pulse. Immediately my team went into “revive the patient” mode. We started CPR right away and did everything we could to revive them. As I rushed the ambulance to the hospital, my coworkers continued attempts to bring the patient back to life. Nothing was working.
As I sped through the city with lights on and siren blaring, I continually prayed for resurrection. I kept watching in the rearview mirror to see if there was any progress, but when we arrived at the hospital there was still no change in the patient’s condition. The doctors and nurses immediately took over trying to resuscitate the patient but didn’t see any results either.
As I was taking the gurney out of the room, I felt led to go back and quietly pray, so I went back in. The medical team had just finished another attempt at resuscitation but the patient’s line was still flat. Just like Jesus said, I whispered under my breath, “Arise. Arise. I command life to come back into this body.” Every second I said “arise” the patient’s line started jumping on the monitor! I stood in amazement as I watched the breath of life once again flow through the patient’s body!
