I came to Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry from the United Kingdom with my wife and two children, and early on began to notice that the cost of living for the year was going to be higher than we’d anticipated. Originally my wife was going to take care of our family at home, but it was soon clear she would need to become a student also. Now we not only had an additional tuition and mission trip payment of $7,000, but we also needed $10,800 for childcare. Then we had some unforeseen medical expenses of $5,000.
At church that week during the offering declaration, something rose up in me, and I remembered God’s word to me from earlier in the year: “Don’t worry about the numbers adding up.” Two weeks later, my wife and I both had our mission trips paid off in full.
When I flew back to the U.K. for Christmas, our church took an offering, and someone put in a kilo of Swiss silver! It was in a drawstring pouch, and the value sheet inside said it was worth 650 British pounds, the equivalent of exactly $1,000 U.S. dollars. Earlier in the year, Dave Harvey had shared a testimony of how God blessed him and others with gifts of $1,000. We had already received $1,000 for missions, so this was the second manifestation for us of this testimony!
Two weeks after this, in my activation, the leader shared a testimony about how, after hearing of a tenfold financial increase from $10 to $100, she claimed it for herself by a multiple of ten – and then received $1,000. Right after this, someone shared about a friend who heard of a similar testimony, claimed it by a multiple of ten, and received $10,000! The room went wild. I declared before the Lord that I received that last testimony by a multiple of ten!
Two nights later, I was telling the Lord we really needed financial breakthrough.
“Jim, do you trust me?” He asked.
I said, “I think so, but I’m scared!”
He replied, “I’ve got it covered. It’s done. Trust Me.”
The next day I went to our mailbox, and there was a letter. A family member’s investment fund had matured, and this person was giving us a third of it. It was a huge amount and would pay back our entire year’s worth of expenses, including all our travel, medical bills, and tuition. In fact, we will return home with more money than we left with, and we haven’t been able to earn a cent.
Before we were hit with all our expenses, God had asked us to give away a certain amount of money during the year. We stuck to that number. He was extravagant to us but wanted us to be extravagant first. That is the kind of God we serve!
