About four years ago, I left a very successful marketing company I had built and came with my wife and our son to Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry. Within a year, God had my life completely overhauled and changed forever. After the first year at school I re-entered the business world with a new vision and heart for building something of excellence, all while continuing Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry. I set up a website company that has since grown rapidly and now services clients all across the world.
Recently, I was thanking God for all the clients He has brought us over the years. Despite being a marketing company, we actually don’t market ourselves, which is completely opposite to how I ran my previous large marketing firm. While there is a time and place for working hard, God had a bigger plan in mind for me this time. He wanted to break off the performance mindset and lies I’d believed about my inability to hear His voice. He wanted me to know what being His son really looks like in the business world.
Following God’s leading, I prayed very specifically for a client in a country where we didn’t have any yet. As my team and I began to pray for this new contract, I was really specific with God. “I don’t want to just get a contract in Israel. I want You to confirm, beyond any doubt, this is especially a gift from You.” Only a few days later, our office phone rang. I couldn’t fully understand the quick-talking man on the other end of the line. He sounded Middle Eastern but was fluent in English. He immediately started telling me about his company’s website needs. I interrupted and apologized, asking him if he wouldn’t mind telling me where he was calling from. He replied, “Tel Aviv, sir.” Yeah. Israel. My first call ever from Israel. I leaned forward in my seat and said, “Oh, wow. I love Israel. Do you mind telling me your name again?” As I started to process his name and confirmed the spelling with him I literally broke out in laughter.
“Why are you laughing?” he asked. “Is my name funny to you?”
“No! It’s a great name! Here’s the thing, man. I already know you’re going to hire us.”
“Oh, really? Sir, are you serious?”
“Yeah. I realize I sound crazy, but how about getting yourself ready for something really cool. Trust me. We’re going to know each other really well and you’re going to love the work we do for you.”
“Um…okay,” he said.
“See, my team and I are followers of Yahweh. He’s very real to us and partners with us like a good Father. So here’s what’s funny. Like I said, we love Israel but we’ve never had a client from your country, so a few days ago we decided to ask Yahweh to not only send us a client from Israel but to do something that would make it undeniably Him, something that is just too crazy for coincidence.”
“And what would that ‘crazy part’ be?” he asked.
“Your name, man. Your first name is the first name of my first son.”
“Okay. Well…”
“And your last name is my first name.”
“Are you serious?” he exclaimed.
“Yes! You pronounce it differently, but look on my website!
On my biography page you can see our names. Together, they make your name. So you, my new friend, are not only going to hire us but we are going to do amazing work for you. I promise. It’s how Yahweh does things, and He loves you too!”
“Well, I don’t believe in any religion, let alone Yahweh…”
“No worries. So let’s get going.”
“Okay. What is this price I am going to pay?” he asked.
At this moment, I felt the Holy Spirit telling me to “go high” on the price so I gave him a price equal to the highest price we’d ever received for a project. When he heard it, his enthusiasm noticeably reduced. He said he would get back to me.
We waited nervously and heard nothing for over a week. I was beginning to worry I had blown it and this client had slipped through my fingers. Then one day as I was going about my normal morning routine, my phone rang. Immediately I recognized his voice. I was ecstatic as he told me they wanted to hire our company. When I told him I’d been concerned about not getting the contract due to the delay in his response, he said the reason it took his team so long to make the decision was that our quote was “scary low”! His budget was literally ten times more than what I quoted him. The excellent sales pitch, combined with the informal laughter, “Yahweh stuff,” and a very low price gave him cause to be concerned. He spent the week investigating me and my company. Ha!
When God says go big, go big!
