Early in the year I found out that my dad had a very serious type of liver cancer. He’d already been diagnosed with hepatitis from his years as a drug addict, and the doctors had given him six months to live. On top of all of this, one day I found out that he had bleeding in his brain and was being rushed to the emergency room. The doctors gave him less than a 50 percent chance of living.
My ministry school pastor heard about my dad and brought me up on stage during class, and the whole school agreed with me and said no to death. My dad survived his first brain surgery! That in itself was a miracle, but then he had to go back in.
After all this my dad still had cancer and hepatitis in his liver, and he was still predicted to have six months to live. He needed a liver donor, but he was never healthy enough for the transplant because of the hepatitis. God showed up again, because after brain surgery, my dad grew healthier than ever. He was ready for a donor but just needed one to come up.
One night while my roommate and I were praying, my roommate declared that God was saying my dad had access to a new liver. Five minutes later, my mom called, frantically saying they’d found a donor and that she was going to the hospital right then.
A liver transplant is very dangerous and usually takes months to recover from, even just enough to be discharged from the hospital. My dad not only made it through the surgery, but also he was out of the hospital in two weeks! By this point the doctors were calling him a walking miracle. My dad has regained all his strength only three months after surgery! God has given him a new life, and he’s cancer free!
My dad’s situation brought my family closer rather than tearing us apart. God completely turned a horrible situation into a blessing beyond measure.
