We were in NYC and were asked if we’d go to a big NYC hospital to visit a woman who had cancer that had metastasized into her bone marrow, blood, and organs. She was flat in bed and in a neck brace because she was in intense pain and couldn’t move anything. If she sat up the pain would almost knock her unconscious. Just that morning she’d gotten word that the doctors were pretty sure her cancer had gone to her brain. She was really freaked out, but we came in and released hope and encouragement. She felt peace come over her but was afraid to move.
Then I felt like we were supposed to laugh over her. I said, “Hey, I feel like God wants to release the joy of heaven over you. Is that ok?” She said, “Yes, I could use some joy.” So we started laughing, and then she started laughing, and laughing, until she was in hysterics she was laughing so hard!
Her door was across from the nurses’ station and the nurses were like, what is happening? It was uproarious and very noticeable in the quiet hospital hospital. By then she was feeling a lot better and her fear had gone, but she still didn’t want to move. Two days later we got a text telling us that they found no cancer in her brain, then we got a text that she was sitting up in bed with no neck brace and no pain in her body! Then they released her from the hospital! – from Chuck Parry
