Here in East London, South Africa my wife and I started a healing ministry in a local squatter camp church. We had a family approach us on behalf of their sick daughter. We invited them to bring her to the church meeting, however they say that she was too sick to come. They asked us to please visit their home to pray for her. So we blindly followed this desperate family through the informal settlement to the home where their daughter lay. We walked into the main room only to find this young woman on the ground, completely paralyzed. We found out that she had spinal tuberculosis and wasn’t able to walk for the past 9 months.
Our hearts were filled with compassion and hope for God to do the miraculous for this family. We sat on the ground and prayed our best prayers, each time asking her to test if she could walk, but nothing happened. Feeling hopelessness creep into the atmosphere, we looked around the room only to notice two older women earnestly praying in the corner. They had been there the whole time but we hadn’t seen them before. Suddenly, the Spirit revealed to us that one of the women had a heart problem and the other was blind. Rachael prayed for the elderly woman with a heart condition, and I prayed for the blind woman. The blind woman’s eyes opened, and the woman that had a heart problem began jumping for joy!
The atmosphere of faith was restored and we felt authority to pray for the young woman lying on the floor again. After spending some time with her, she was still not healed. We encouraged her to praise Jesus despite her current circumstances and left with the intention to return and check on her.
The next week at the church meeting a well dressed woman came and asked to share a testimony. We gave her the microphone and allowed her to share but what we did not realize was that the woman standing in front of us was the previously paralyzed woman with spinal tuberculosis. She continued to tell us how Jesus healed her after we had left. Feeling so encouraged by our visit and by her mother and aunt receiving healing, she continued to pray and praise Jesus. Three days after we left, she got up off of the ground, completely healed of the spinal tuberculosis and she was no longer paralyzed.
Jesus had much bigger things in store than what we had originally expected! He could have healed this young woman after the first prayer, but His desire was to heal the whole family! Thank you Jesus for your restoration and heart to heal!
