I lost my uncle, who was also my pastor, only a few months before my Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry mission trip. He committed suicide. As my mission trip to Norway approached, I believed that God was going to bring redemption.
Redemption came one night when we were leading a youth group.
My team was giving specific messages from God for individuals from the stage, and I asked God to highlight someone to me. Instantly, I heard Him say, “Look for their shirt.” The Lord showed me a girl in the crowd who was wearing a Green Day shirt. He told me to tell her she was going to have many green days. He was going to water her with His love like He waters the grass, and she was a princess and He loved her.
As I told her these things, she immediately experienced the reality of His love for her and started weeping. She came up to me afterward and told me that she had struggled with depression for most of her life. She cut herself daily and ever since her parents divorced, she locked herself in her bedroom. She told me she heard “Jesus loves you!” her whole life but had never felt it. She had made a plan to commit suicide that night, but when I gave her the word, she literally experienced God’s love for her-for the first time in her life! God showed me through this experience that His words become worlds, and that when we say what He is saying, it comes with a reality.
I felt so heavy – a good heaviness. I became overwhelmed with God’s love for her, and I began to see a glimpse of just how He saw her. Not only did God reveal His immense love and save her from killing herself, but that night, this young girl gave her life to Jesus. This experience was very special to me, and it felt redemptive in many ways.
